About the Toyota Solara

The Toyota Solara, also known as the Toyota Camry Solara, is a mid-size coupe/convertible manufactured and marketed by Toyota from 1999 to 2008 across two generations. Production of the Solara began at Georgetown Assembly in Kentucky in October 1998 and ended in August 2009. The oldest North American plant is still in operation.

The Solara model was designed to fill the gap between the discontinued Celica and MR2. Its platform is based on the XV10 platform, which underpins the Toyota Camry V6 (XV20). The combined production of the first and second generations totaled about 548,000 units over ten years.

The model underwent multiple facelifts throughout its run; it shared its platform with its sedan brethren, receiving all-new front-end styling shared with the 2002 model year Camry in 2003 and a completely new rear-end design in 2005. This included a revised taillight assembly, a license plate "bracket" integrated into the third brake light assembly, and a trapezoidal exhaust tip integrated into the rear bumper fascia.

The vehicle remained mostly unchanged during its lifespan outside of these cosmetic changes due to its base on an older platform.
